The annual VWCV Kennett River weekend

Every year the club holds its annual Kennett River weekend. Begining in March 2003 and starting as a two day event, a convoy of vws travelled down the Great Ocean Road past Lorne to the majestical Kennet River Caravan park. There they would set up tents or pop tops, pull out the deck chair and relax with a cold one near by.

Kennett River

As the years went on the event grew bigger as well as the attendance. The weekends also became longer. Growing from two days to nearly two weeks. With so much to do two days just wasn't enough. Now people just come down when they feel like it and leave when they want. One year we had over 50 cars arrive and pitch a tent.

The beach which is directly across the road is cut off from the other beaches allowing a private section just for campers of Kennett River. There you can surf, body board, fish or just play in the sand.

If the beach is not enough you can go and see the Glow worms which are about 20 minutes away by car. These are a truly great sight but take my advice and go when its dark!

Apollo Bay and Lorne are both about 30 minutes away by car for all your shopping needs and to restock the esky.

The carvan park offers decent sized sites that will fit a kombi with annex or any vw that requires a tent next to it. The sites have nice green grass and are comfortable to sleep on. But we suggest a mattress at least. There is also a small playground for the kiddies to wear themselves out on.

park layout

Roughing it not your style. You're in luck. There are also cabins on site. These are comfortable and modern and wil suit the indoors camper.

Go to Kennett River Caravan Park to book a site online or ring them on 1300 664 417. Or email them on info@kennettriver.com.

One of the greatest things about this trip is that it is a nice easy weekend where you can meet up with other club members and get to know each other. It is a great family event if you have wee ones and are encouraged to come along.

The club is running this event again this year. Check the event calendar for the dates or contact the events coordinator. But book early as the park is busy during the warmer months. Also mention that you're with the VW club so you get a site with the other vw nuts.

See you at the beach!
