Programme for the day

The Day of the Volkswagen is on again at Yarra Valley Race Course.

This year is looking to be another big year for the Day of the Volkswagen with Volkswagen Group Australia our major sponsor for the event. Representatives from the 2010 Volkswagen dealer of the year will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the new cars on display or any other model from the Volkswagen range.

30 Years of the Day of the Volkswagen

The DOTVW theme this year is celebrating 30 years of the Day of the Volkswagen. The VW Club of Victoria has been running the day of 30 years and that’s quite a milestone in the Club history. For all those nostalgia buffs a display of the trophies awarded over the last 30 years will be on display giving you the opportunity to remember the day.

Multiple entry to the venue

Yarra Valley Race Course has two entrances, one for vehicles to be judged and one for entry for cars that are not being judged. Signage at the front gate should help identify the correct gate to use. The vehicle judging gate is the first gate on the right from Armstrong Grove. The general venue parking gate is the second gate on the right from Armstrong Grove.

The Day of the Volkswagen 2011Judging Arrangements.

All cars will be judged before they are parked. If your car is to be judged please enter the judging lane entrance being the first entrance gate. The gate will be located half way down the driveway to minimise a build up of cars on Armstrong Grove. Once you pass the judging entrance gate there is room on either side of the lane to park you car and complete any final detailing before judging. You can spend as much time as you like detailing your car before continuing down the judging lane entrance to the venue gates where the judges will be waiting for you.

If you don’t need to detail your VW, please feel free to join the judging lane straight after entering the gate.

Judging will be available from 8.30am to 9.00am for Volunteers who are working on the day but want to enter their car for judging.

The public judging times are from 9.00am to 11.00am.
Once your car has been judged you are free to park your car inside the grounds. A parking volunteer will be at the end of the judging lanes to assist with directions if needed.

It is not necessary to park cars in model groups. Please feel free to park with your friends.

This year, the Day of the Volkswagen judging arrangements will again be organised by club members John Goodison and Lloyd Davies. It will continue the tradition of a ‘Show and Shine’ event established over many years. John and Lloyd will try to ensure that the judging will be fair for all who enter.

NO ALCOHOL, BBQs or DOGS are permitted on the venue grounds. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch as there are plenty of shaded trees and beautifully grassed areas available for your use. The venue also has 4 free BBQs that are available for use.

Volunteers

We also need volunteers to run the day. This means giving an hour or so of your time to direct traffic, marshal cars, judge cars, serve on the Club stand, help with the plaster mould painting, colouring in or Scalextric racing.

Volunteering your time gives you the opportunity to work alongside other Club members, to get involved and expand your network of friends in the Club as well as helping the event to run smoothly. This year each Volunteer will receive a limited edition Day of the Volkswagen 2011 Volunteer’s Polo-shirt and Pin for their contribution.

For all those hungry for that elusive rare part we will be running the ever popular swap meet. Entry for swap set up will be 8.00am with buyer’s entry strictly from 9.00am.

Our Membership Officer will be available to answer any questions you may have in regards to VWCV membership and to take new membership applications on the day.

Entertainment

A special event this year will be the Total Fire Band band playing all the popular and appropriate music for a German car show.

The public address system will be available for all traders during the day. Traders will be making announcements for show specials and normal club announcements will be made through out the day to assist with parking and programme of events for the day.

Kids Activities

We have many activities to keep the younger Volkswagen enthusiasts happy this year. The venue offers a play ground plus for the artistic you can colour in a picture of your favourite Volkswagen or you can paint a Volkswagen plaster mould for FREE.

FREE face painting will be available between 11.00am and 1.00pm at the Kids Dome and for the speed freaks you can race on the Scalextric track and try and win one of the many prizes up for grabs.

Catering

We have two Espresso Cafe vans available for those connoisseurs of fine coffee. We welcome back Robin and Sue form Espresso Mobile Café – Wheelers Hill and Richard and Lee from Espresso Mobile Café – Bayswater.

The Lions Club of Park Orchards will be serving bacon and egg rolls till 10.00am then steak sandwiches and hot chips for the remainder of the day.

For the health conscious the Lions Club will also offer salad rolls and California rolls.

For desert see Jim at the Supawhippy van for a refreshing soft serve.

Entry Costs

The Club is offering a cash incentive to pre-register for the Day of the Volkswagen.

To park in the grounds you don’t have to have your car judged. We are keen to get as many Volkswagens inside the grounds as possible so remember is it possible to just park your car inside. There is however a limit to the number of cars we can fit inside the venue and when the grounds are full we have to close the gates. Don’t be disappointed, get there early to make sure you are able to park inside.

You can purchase pre-registration entry for both show and shine judging and ground parking only using Pay Pal from our Club’s website www.vwclub.com.au/. Pre-Registration will be open between 26th September and the 21st October 2011. We have to close pre-registration two weeks before the event to make sure the pre-registration stickers arrive in the mail to you in time for the event.

The Club is also offering additional incentives for Members who pre-register.

To have your car judged

Please have your Pre-Paid Show and Shine Registration sticker attached to your windscreen upon arrival at the gate. Entry for the Show and Shine closes strictly at 11.00am. Pre-paid entrants will only need to stop for the free DOTVW 2011 Show Bag with contents kindly donated by supporters of the Day of the Volkswagen including Shannon’s Insurance, Flashlube, Just Cars Magazine, Armor all, VW Magazine Australia and Car Safe.

Parking

Parking volunteers will direct vehicles on the day to ensure a smooth entry into the grounds.

Areas have been allocated for groups such as the Audi Club, Melburg Luft, the 356 Club, the 901 Register, the Syncro group and the Karmann Ghia Club and these areas have been noted on the venue map.
