The National Australian Bug-In

A brief history...

The 1st Bug-In was organised by the then Volkswagen Australasia Pty Ltd in Albury, NSW, on the Australia Day Weekend, 1970.

The Bug-In consisted of a race meeting at Hume Weir race circuit, a grass motorkhana on the banks of the Murray River, a car trial and a social trip to Falls Creek snowfields in northern Victoria. This has been the one and only Bug-In, (so far) which has featured snow.

The Bug-In has been hosted by the relevant state based VW Clubs over the Easter weekend ever since, moving from State to State in an anti-clockwise direction.

Bug-In 2009

The host state for the 2009 Bug-In is Victoria, and the event is hosted by the Volkswagen Club of Victoria Inc and Volksclub Bendigo Inc.

Bug-In 2009 celebrates a ruby anniversary being the 40th National Bug-In, and will be staged in and around the Bendigo region of Victoria

The event is held primarily for the benefit of all VW enthusiasts throughout Australia. The host VW Club members stage each of the events on a voluntary basis.

The events include a welcome dinner, show and shine, motorsports, presentation dinner, farewell activities and in later years an extended tour that allows members to continue the celebration of the VW by touring in convoy on the much loved Australian pastime of the "road trip".

The 2009 extended tour plans to cross the Australian Alps so after 40 years we may repeat the experience of the inaugural Bug-In and feature snow.

The general public is most welcome to attend the show and shine and the motor sport events, with all proceeds from admissions being donated to a local Bendigo charity.
